This is that ...

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came...

Many Jews were confused and marveled, “Whatever can this mean?”

Then Peter standing up raised his voice and began to speak. “These are not drunk as you suppose...but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel...” (Acts 2:16)

This is that... is a resource to reveal, and give light to scripture...by comparing scripture to scripture. Only God can reveal God. Only His Spirit can “guide us into all truth.” (John 16:13)

This is that…11.9.18
The Professor began His teaching this morning telling His students to walk in love and to walk in the Spirit, for when you do that you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Let’s study Galatians 5:14-26 to understand how it relates to us in the year 2018.

If you don’t “love your neighbor as yourself” and walk in the Spirit, you will have constant challenges because the flesh will continually challenge you. Your spirit and the Holy Spirit within you are to dominate the flesh. “But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” That means that now you are under grace and can dominate the flesh by walking in the Spirit.

Josh, come up and write "the works of the flesh" on the board.

Adultery
Fornication
Uncleanness
Lewdness
Idolatry
Hatred
Contentions
Jealousies
Outbursts of Wrath
Selfish Ambitions
Dissensions
Heresies
Envy
Murders
Drunkenness
Revelries

What happens if you practice such things?

Josh answered, “You will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Yes, that’s right. The following verse says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love…”

When you were born again your spirit became alive with love because the Holy Spirit took up residence in you. He is God the Spirit and He is love. “But he who is joined to the LORD is one Spirit with Him.” (1 Corinthians 6:17)

Now Josh, write for us the fruit of the Spirit/spirit.

Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self Control

Josh, please read verse 24.

“And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

Thank you, Josh.

Students, does this mean that because you are under grace that you can watch movies and listen to music that is immoral and think it will not affect you?
Can you use foul language like the world uses?
Can you participate in sexual behavior outside of marriage?
Can you have close fellowship with ungodly people?
Can you hold unforgivness toward people who have hurt you?
Can you avoid attending church?
Can you despise your neighbor?

WATCH OUT!
A lifestyle of any of the above will take you into the strong current of being worldly, going back to what you were delivered from!  “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.” (2 Peter 2:22)

Returning to the world can be very subtle. The Holy Spirit will prompt you before making a wrong choice, but if you ignore Him continually, your heart will become callous and deaf to His voice. That's dangerous!

The ball is in your court!

Paul writes in Romans 6:12-20:
“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”

“What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed, and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.”

This is that…which bears fruit to everlasting life!
“What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.” (Romans 6:21-22)
