The Mystery of Lawlessness
2 Thessalonians 2:1-12
“Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things?”
“And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
The Apostle Paul is writing to the Believers of his day to persevere through the distress and persecution that comes when spreading the Gospel.
Paul reveals the future to them, but not the future of their time but actually the future of our day…our generation! Paul sees the punishment of the man of sin when he is revealed:
“exalting himself above God, sitting in the temple of God, showing off that he is God; yet it is satan working with all “power, signs, and lying wonders with all unrighteous deception among those who perish.”
Since they reject the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God, “God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
2023: Sin
That is the mystery of lawlessness, which we see bearing evil fruit throughout the whole earth, was conceived when Eve chose the fruit of the tree called “good and evil,” and Adam, knowing it was wrong, chose to eat it also!
“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.”
My Bible says that capital H in He can also be lower case. Since Jesus and His Church are one, that means the anointed Body of Christ on earth is holding back lawlessness until the rapture comes.
How can we determine we are the generation that will see the day of the falling away and the revealing of the man of sin? (2 Thessalonians 2:3)
We Look at Israel
The “generation” clock Paul is referring to, started clicking on May 14, 1948 when Israel became a nation; seventy-five years ago.
Believers that are born during this time are a chosen generation, a people called even before conception, who have an end days assignment. (See Ephesians 1:4)
What a privilege!
What is our assignment, Saints?
Harvest the earth!
We can see all the major ministries throughout the nations are hurriedly ramping up their assignments to bring the Gospel message to eight billion people before Jesus returns in the air to remove His Glorious Church.
How do we get hard-hearted, proud people to hear the salvation message?
Many times God does it through tribulation. Even then, many will remain hard and oppose the gospel message.
Judas is an example of a hardened heart.
He walked with Jesus and heard the Word of the Lord for three years, didn’t he? Nevertheless, he chose the path to sin.
Interesting, at the end, not only did Jesus die on a wooden cross, but Judas also hung himself from a tree. (Matthew 27:5 & Acts 1:16-18)
Something to Ponder
Everything in the heavens and on earth came forth from God the Father.
He is the source of all life and all creation!
Of course, all life conceived in the womb came forth from God the Father. God wants every life that’s born to seek Him…to hear the Gospel and get born again into His Kingdom. But that decision resides within the heart of every individual.
Here is where prayer takes its highest level…Intercession!
A new life in God’s Kingdom is God’s greatest desire! Years ago, we met the couple who were praying for us while we were on a Marriage Encounter Week-End. Thank God for them! They unknowingly prayed us through an afternoon when I wanted to leave and go home…the following day we met Jesus!
Truly, intercession is an out-of-this-world assignment! (Ephesians 2:6)
Intercession is the birthing room!
What a glorious assignment His Church has!
Holy Spirit led intercession joins us together in the heavenly places in Christ to release our cities from demonic strongholds so that the Gospel is preached with an anointing to release those held captive, wondering if there is a God.
Saints, this is our greatest hour!
Birth revival! Birth the Kingdom of God!
