This is that ...

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came...

Many Jews were confused and marveled, “Whatever can this mean?”

Then Peter standing up raised his voice and began to speak. “These are not drunk as you suppose...but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel...” (Acts 2:16)

This is that... is a resource to reveal, and give light to scripture...by comparing scripture to scripture. Only God can reveal God. Only His Spirit can “guide us into all truth.” (John 16:13)

Faith Fundamentals

If you clean out the cob webs, your faith will work better!

Before Adam transgressed the commandment, God spoke directly to him.
“Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion...over all the earth...’” (Genesis 1:26)
“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion...over every living thing that moves on the earth.”(Genesis 1:28) God spoke words transferring authority on earth to man.

Two Trees—Man’s Right to Choose
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.’”

Daath: Hebrew word for knowledge in Genesis 2:16-17: perception, knowledge, skill, discernment, understanding, wisdom. This is knowledge that comes through the five-sense realm where natural reasoning takes over all decision making.

“Well, what’s wrong with that?”
This is a terribly degraded position from God’s original intent where Adam heard directly from God. Adam’s sin opened the door to the satanic realm of darkness to influence mankind on earth. Our generation has seen the rise of ungodly men who continually desire to remove God’s goodness from schools, government, business, entertainment, and so on.

The Apostle James reveals there is wisdom that does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, and demonic. (See James 3:13-18)

Jesus Christ
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

The Born Again Man—Christ in You the Hope of Glory
You are a spirit. When God speaks, He speaks to your spirit, especially through the scriptures. To live and prosper in God’s fullness of authority, you have to hear from God...on the inside. Practice every day walking in God’s presence, meditating on scripture. This is called abiding in Him. This is called fellowship.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind...” (Romans 12:2)

This is how we develop ourselves to hear from God inwardly, rather than relying on the five-sense realm for answers and direction. Before Christ, you were depending on your senses and earthly wisdom to tell your soul what to do. Now, as you develop in walking in the spirit by faith in God, your inner man becomes illuminated with life and tells your mind, “Go here,” or “do this.” (See Isaiah 30:21) That is being led by the Holy Spirit!

This is that...which God spoke to Moses:
“But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.
‘See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil...choose life that both you and your descendants may live...’”
(See Deuteronomy 30:14-20)

Faith Fundamentals

Faith is a spiritual force, a substance. Faith is not based in the five-sense realm of touch, sight, taste, smell, and hearing; those things that we are so accustomed to making decisions from.

Where did faith came from?
God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (Romans 12:3) By grace through faith, you have been saved, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. (Ephesians 2:8) Faith is developed by planting...(or saying faith-filled words.)  (See Luke 17:5-10)

Examples of Faith
Problem—darkness and void:
“Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3)

Problem—the rich woman who had no son:
The prophet said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” (2 Kings 4:17)

Problem—the widow and her sons had a debt they could not pay.
The prophet said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere...pour (the oil you have) into the vessels... (then) “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” (2 Kings 4:7)

Problem—the drought and starvation.
The prophet said, “Do not fear...make me a small cake (from what you have) first, and afterward...for yourself and son. And she and he and her household ate for many days”
(1 Kings 17:16)

Problem—the people are hungry.
Jesus had been teaching the multitude all day. The disciples said, “This is a deserted place and already the hour is late...send them away...” (that they may eat.)
The Prophet said, “You give them something to eat...”
“So they all ate and were filled...about five thousand men.” (Mark 6:44)

Material things depend on spiritual things for their existence.
All things are upheld with the word of His power. (Hebrews 1:3) The earth and everything created on it came forth by the words of Almighty God. Things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. (Hebrews 11:3)

Faith demands that God be your only source. If you wander from this you will be double-minded or doubt-minded and unstable. (James 1:6-8)

The preaching of faith (Romans 10:17) will take you where you desire to go. Find the promise of God that will meet your need. Remember you are planting a living seed in your heart. (Mark 4:10-32)

Your part: Stay in the Word, and believe you receive.
God’s part: To bring it to pass. (See Mark 11 22-26)

If it doesn’t exist in your heart, or you just can’t “see” it, you can’t have faith for it.
Meditate on the precious promise until revelation comes. Then, thank God.

This is that...which the Apostle Paul spoke about.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ... (Ephesians 1:3)

This is that...11.13.17
The hidden affections of the heart will eventually be displayed by actions.

“You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted by your own affections... Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.
  1. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness?
  2. And what communion has light with darkness?
  3. And what accord has Christ with Belial?
  4. Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
  5. And what agreement has the temple of God with idols?
  6. For you are the temple of the living God.
As God has said: ‘I will dwell in them and walk in them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Therefore come out from among them and be separate, says the LORD.’” (2 Corinthians 6:12-16)

Unequally Yoked—A Sign of Leaving our First Love
God knows well the affections of our heart, whether we are seeking after other things or putting the Lord, His Word, and His assignment first place in our heart and mind. In the days we are living in, we must continually take an inventory of what our heart is desiring.

Have we tired of church gatherings but enjoy going to the movies more?
Is our first priority in the morning to seek the internet or to seek His face?
The things we enjoy…are they good before the Lord?
Do they edify us?
What things lead us away from the Lord?
What about our close companions and those we share our heart with?
Are they devoted to the Lord?
If not, they may bring a snare.

Worldliness Impedes Spiritual Progress
If worldly affections begin to dominate us we will begin to lose our inner peace, direction, and freedom. That can result in restlessness. Restlessness can be a sign of distress or hunger in the spirit. This could be the root of why Christians hop from church to church.

What does all this have to do with faith?
Faith is a spiritual substance that comes out of a heart of love that is continually abiding in the Word of God. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. (1 John 5:4)

If faith is depleted, how can we overcome the world?
Praying people must have continual contact with the Holy Spirit Himself.

This is Who is yoked to us.
This is Who we are to fellowship with all day long, Spirit to spirit!

This is that...which Jesus Christ taught:
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

Faith Fundamentals

Faith-filled words dominate the law of sin and death.

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)

Everything on this planet operates through these two laws.

Words are Containers
Words are an expression of thoughts. They get transferred to other people or things and can influence circumstances for good or for bad.
Words contain fear or faith or can have no value whatsoever (idle).

God’s faith-filled words are written in the Holy Scriptures.
Jesus called these particular words SEEDS.

“The sower sows the word.” (Mark 4:14)
To understand this is to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God and how it works. (Mark 4:11-41)

So we understand seeds need time to grow, first the blade... (See Mark 11:26-32)

“The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters;
The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.” (Proverbs 18:4)

Words are like a bucket that is lowered into a deep well.
“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
  • A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things,
  • and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.” (Matthew 12:34-35)

This is that... which Jesus Christ has bestowed upon us.
“Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.”
(Mark 11:22-23)
