31 Days to Mental Health in 2024!
You are a spirit, have a soul, live in a body. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
You are a spirit. That is where the Word of God (His promises) are stored…in the inner (born again) man. This is where the Holy Spirit, who is God, lives. You’re never alone.
(If you do not have a personal, loving relationship with Father God and His Son Jesus Christ, click here:
“Don’t Know God?” before continuing.)
Soul: The mind, will, emotions, intellect, and memories.
In order for the hidden man of the heart (1 Peter 3:4) to dominate the soul, conduct must be controlled. Self-control, discipline, self-restraint are part of the fruit of the Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:22-25)
Anti-fruit:
“Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another.” (Galatians 5:26 AMPC) That is NOT living in the Spirit and cannot make a Believer happy.
Therefore, conduct must be controlled to have mental health.
When you have a sound mind, your capacity to remember things will flourish.
THE WILL OF MAN
The strong-willed carnal nature was inherited from Adam because of his sin in the garden. A resistant stubborn attitude toward obedience to God can be changed by a daily diet of receiving God’s Word. In the beginning when God saw the void and the darkness on the earth, He spoke words: “Light be! Light was!” The carnal nature, proud, defiant, and unyielding to God, can be transformed by His Word to produce the peace and joy of a sound disciplined mind.
Gates to the Soul
What you see.
What you hear.
What you say.
Your submitted will is the Sheriff at the gate. “You can come in. You stay out!”
Everything in life is either a plus or a minus to you, including being "unequally yoked with an unbeliever," which is definitely a minus. (See 2 Corinthians 6:11-18) You choose.
TAKE THE CHALLENGE!
For the next 31 days, write one verse each day on a card or sticky note. Speak it several times a day. If you can, memorize it. Meditate on it.
Meditation-definition:
keep it in; keep secret; guard it; keep under; commit to keeping it. The Hebrew word for meditation is “Hagah” which means to murmur, ponder, imagine, speak, study. It is not like a lion roaring, (arrgh!) but rather like chewing.
Meditation is strengthening your self-control and renewing your mind. God’s Word in your heart will produce the fruit of the Spirit. The Holy Spirit has an assignment to help you and teach you in every area of life. Why? So that you can enjoy the abundant life Jesus died to give you. (John 10:10)
Remember: “For as he thinks within himself, so he is.” (Proverbs 23:7) If you can change your thinking and your words, you will change your life.
There are things that can hinder or steal the word, like listening to hours of news programs. Jesus said, “Take heed what you hear.” (See Mark 4:23-25) The world enters into your soul by what you hear and what you see. Self-control and discipline are essential for a sound mind and guarding your spirit.
God’s Word when spoken produces life.
Jesus said, “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” (John 6:63)
What’s the goal here?
Change your thinking, change your life!
