This is that ...

On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came...

Many Jews were confused and marveled, “Whatever can this mean?”

Then Peter standing up raised his voice and began to speak. “These are not drunk as you suppose...but this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel...” (Acts 2:16)

This is that... is a resource to reveal, and give light to scripture...by comparing scripture to scripture. Only God can reveal God. Only His Spirit can “guide us into all truth.” (John 16:13)

The Word of the LORD for 2018
“Meditate on scripture throughout each day and your year will be bright and full of the glory of the LORD...so you shall bear much fruit.”

Scripture meditation means to ponder, to think about, mutter to oneself...in the LORD. It is the foundation to walking in the Spirit and pleasing Father.
(See Psalm 1:1-3 and Joshua 1:8-9)

Let’s look at John 15:1-17
This passage of scripture is loaded with life and revelation knowledge. Jesus reveals Himself as the True Vine, the source of all life, and reveals His Father as the Vinedresser who prunes the branches. Those branches that bear fruit, He trims to bear MORE fruit.

Those branches that are unproductive or fruitless, Father takes away...to be separated and then burned.

“I’m trying to bear fruit for God. I volunteer at the mission every week and feed the poor. Every Saturday morning I clean the bathrooms at my church and vacuum also. But I don’t know why everything in my life seems so dry and lifeless. I guess I’m just in a desert place right now.”

How long have you been there?

“Oh, probably been feeling like this for a couple of years....”

Let’s look at what Jesus said in this passage.
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” (John 15:4)

THE BRANCH CANNOT BEAR FRUIT OF ITSELF

“What exactly are you saying? Are you implying that I might not be bearing fruit even though I am volunteering to help others and cleaning my church every week?”

Did the LORD tell you to do these things?

“Well, no...not directly. My Pastor told everyone about these needs and I thought I would help out.”

If the LORD didn’t tell you to do this then you’re not actually bearing fruit in the Vine but merely doing good activities, kind of like the world does.

Abiding in the Vine
Do you spend time
in fellowship with the LORD on a continual basis, preferably every day? Fellowship with Jesus means you’re reading/studying God’s Word, talking to Him and receiving knowledge, understanding, strength, and joy from Him. Just like a branch on a vine must receive life-giving nutrition in order to produce delicious tasting grapes, your good works must come from an inward inclination or a direct instruction from the One who is the Head of the Church.

Jesus Christ is directing
each of His members in what needs to be done to establish His Kingdom on earth.

But how can a member obey if he doesn’t have time to hear?

Friend, if you’re in the desert it’s because you have gone down a road that the LORD did not tell you to go down, and that’s not good. Where there’s fellowship and obedience there’s the anointing of love and joy, and that produces fruit that shall remain. (John 15:11)

Dear heart, over the next few days, take a spiritual inventory of your walk with Jesus and make changes if necessary.

2018
As we get closer to the end of this age, how you spend your days, and what you are doing for the LORD, will become increasingly more important. 2018 is not a year to let go of what you know you should be doing to be playing around with the world. There will be unwanted consequences...

2018 is a year of glorious rewards for those who walk in the Spirit and are obedient to meditate on scripture.

This is that...which the Risen Savior spoke about...
“I know your works, your labor, your patience... and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored.... Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place--unless you repent.” (Revelation 2:2-5)

Conversations from the Cloud of Witnesses
There he was, running his race terribly bent over, struggling to take the next step. The witnesses were watching, wondering, “Why is that? Remember when he was full of life and energy?”

One said, “I remember in his early days when he had such joy. Every morning he would spend time with Father, reading the Book of Life.” Another said, “Whatever he would read, he was determined to do. Why is that enormous canvas bag on his back? Doesn’t he know it’s slowing him down? What is it that’s in that bag?”

Just then his angel spoke up. “He’s caring the cares of life.

In the bag are worries for his family, worries about money, worries about the chaos in the government, worries about his health, worries about his church, worries about Iran, worries about Korea, worries about global warming, worries about being left alone, worries about his age and his health problems, worries about what is being taught in schools/universities, worries, worries, worries!”

Several others remarked, “Why isn’t he doing what the Master said?”

The angel replied, “Because the Word has been stolen.
He is not following what is written in the Book of Life anymore.

When he gets up in the morning he checks his phone then social media, turns on the news for current disasters, then he’s off to work to share with his co-workers conversations about all that’s going on in the world and his troubled family. But he still goes to church every Sunday and hears a lot of messages about how much God loves him!”

The Race of Faith
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith ...” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Do Not Worry
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow ...” (Matthew 6:33-34)

Casting Cares onto the LORD
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith ...” (1 Peter 5:6-8)

Secret to Bearing Fruit in Perilous Times
Put the Word first place every day.
Do what it says and you will be blessed and free to run your race with joy! (James 1:25) No Word ... no faith ... no faith ... no resistance ...
And that will lead to bondage!

This is that ... which Jesus Christ taught.
“Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” (Mark 4:18-20)

California Fire
Last Tuesday at about 5:00 am, my husband and I were evacuated from an area where extremely dry winds were blowing and fire was raging just up the hill in front of our home. We had been outside from about 11:00 pm watching and standing in our authority, through prayer, that our home and our neighborhood would remain safe. Use of the name of Jesus put out flames on this ridge several times. Around 3:00 am the fire roared down a barranca. Our neighbors, about five houses up our street, have backyards that border the barranca which has very large eucalyptus trees that were exploding into flames. Not one home caught on fire. We witnessed more than one miracle that night and we are very grateful to the LORD.

On May 20, 2017, I was studying Isaiah Chapter 10. It’s very interesting. I wrote verse 22 on a card near my computer which I just noticed.

“The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness. For the Lord GOD of hosts will make a determined end in the midst of the land.” (Isaiah 10:22-23)

I remember thinking Tuesday night this is like being in a war zone...not with flesh and blood but with an unseen enemy the Apostle Paul calls “the prince of the power of the air.” Think of the destruction in Houston, Florida, Puerto Rico, Santa Rosa, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho that have to do with chaotic weather.

After quite intense prayer throughout the night I reached a place spiritually where I was done praying. It was like a switch turned off. “Having done all to stand...now stand!”

That’s about the time the mandatory evacuations were called and tremendous thick smoke rolled in. Later that day we finally got a reservation in a brand new hotel 80 miles away. We had a restful time there...with the Lord.

The Mighty Word of Faith
I am so thankful to the LORD for teaching and training me how to stand in faith.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints--

Our Neighborhood was Saved
“Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our LORD Jesus Christ.”
(1 Corinthians 15:57) And Jesus is the Word made flesh. No Word...No victory! (John 15:1-10)

Recommended for You
Many Christians go to church week after week, not knowing what Jesus told them to do in regard to getting the victory through Him. They don’t know who they are in Christ or the authority they have as a Believer. If you are in that category, you are at a website that has many resources defined by categories to help you to stand through the Word of God.

Very important is The Library which has nearly 150 Bible Lessons on faith, hope, love, and prayer.  There’s no reason for a Christian to be scripturally illiterate in our day. When you stand before the LORD you will have no excuse to give Him for not overcoming through Him. If you’re in a church that your Pastor is not training you in faith, he’s not a good shepherd. Find another church!

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”
