But the entire human race!
“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, “You shall not eat of every tree of the garden” ? ’
“And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, “You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. “ ’ “ (Genesis 3:1-3)
Curiosity: a desire to learn or know; a desire to learn about things that do not necessarily concern one
Curious: arousing attention or interest; strange; unusual; odd
Things to Ponder
*Why didn’t Adam take authority over the situation since he was standing right there and knew first hand what God had spoken? (Genesis 3:6)
*Notice, the serpent’s question was from a negative angle.
Definition of Negative: to deny, to contradict, to prove false; having the effect of diminishing, depriving, or denying; a statement of denial, refusal, or rejection
*Using the negative, the serpent drew her into conversation by prompting a reply to his twisted question: “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’ ” In other words, you cannot eat any fruit! Satan was certainly soliciting a response.
*The serpent is always trying to steal, kill or destroy God’s Word, spoken or written. That’s because the Word is alive and more powerful than a two-edged sword and is part of the Believer’s armor when released in spoken words. “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
*One question corrupted the original plan of God for man.
*Eve was deceived, Adam was not. (1 Timothy 2:14)
*Why was Eve deceived? “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate.” (Genesis 3:6)
*There was NO death until their disobedience!
Earth: God’s Garden
And yes, the serpent is still here and still up to his old tricks. How many times has curiosity gotten a Believers attention in the early morning to look up something on the internet?
Instead of getting into scripture and spending time with the Lord, an idea/question came into his mind to get his tablet or phone and look something up. One bite of that fruit led to another and then another and time in the Word was lost. Days and days of that will have an effect. How? The Believer’s authority has no power when operating only on memory, just like the results of not eating food for many days. When I was growing up there was a saying that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. Spiritually, putting God’s Word ahead of everything else must be a requirement!!! Everything else goes to the back of the line!
Mark 4:13-20 “The Parable of the Sower”
This passage describes four different types of people who heard the Word.
The last Believer, Jesus said, would bear much fruit for the Kingdom of God. But did you know we can reverse these scriptures? Even the once fruitful Believer who has been neglecting his study for a long time will become thorny ground! Why? That’s because the Word is being choked and cannot bear fruit for him. After that he becomes stony ground, and finally he becomes hardened wayside ground who cannot receive. Wow…
“The sower sows the word. And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.”
No Word? No Faith!
That means no nutrition is getting to the spirit. A starving spirit is like pictures we have seen of Holocaust victims dying of starvation in concentration camps in Nazi Germany. Be on guard Saints of anything that comes before God’s Word!
1 John 5:18-21
“We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.
And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.
This is the true God and eternal life.
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.”
