Years ago I remember Brother Copeland shared a true story of an elderly woman who lived in England. As a young woman she was hired to work in the service of the Queen of England. At the end of fifty or sixty years, she was retired and given a paper of the Queens appreciation for excellent service. She had it framed and placed on the wall in her small apartment which was in a poor section of London. Although her living circumstances were difficult, she always remembered what an honor it was to serve the Queen.
One day a gentleman came to visit her. As he was leaving her apartment, he noticed the document hanging on the wall and stopped to read it. He was overcome with amazement and asked her if she knew what it was. She replied with great joy that it was for her years of dedication to the Queen. He said yes, that’s right, but not only that, the Queen has provided you with a home of your own and a substantial monthly income for the rest of your life. He then found out this dear woman had never learned to read.
She just didn’t know.
In 1981 I attended my first Spirit-filled church. Someone gave me a paper entitled: “Who I am in Christ” which I still have. Typed on an old manual typewriter, I would continually make copies and hand them out to other Believers. Nothing comes close to the impact that this knowledge has had on my life, except of course meeting Jesus and finding The Bible!
In 2004 I began writing a daily devotional, “Who I am in Christ,” which Michael and I published a year later. That piece of paper I received at church in the 80’s was the foundation of my book…and my life.
Many years later, while we were taking extended ministry courses at our church, we went out to lunch with one of the instructors and his wife. As I was sharing about writing my book, I mentioned it came about from a paper called, “Who I am in Christ” from the same church that we all had attended years ago.
“We typed that.”
“What?”
“We wrote that!”
Our God is amazing!
Intercession!
She just didn’t know…
Someone came to the aid of this dear lady living in poverty.
That’s a picture of how intercession for “the lost” intervenes and affects others. Our prayers ARE affecting multitudes and permeating the heavens over our cities to break up barriers against The Gospel. Never get discouraged about our nation, God is doing business and the glory is at hand! Your prayers are more powerful against the devil when you know who you are!
