"Even so no one knows
the things of God
except the Spirit of God."
1 Corinthians 2:11
___________________________________________________________
Psalm 90 was written by Moses. He and the children of Israel were in the wilderness as a consequence of an “evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God.” They wandered in the land not entering into God's rest/faith. See Hebrews 3:12.
The Holy Spirit through the Apostle Paul teaches The Church to beware of the same thing: “The word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith.”
Moses said,
“So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
The Glorious Church has a magnificent call to fulfill and each individual assignment makes up the whole. The closer we come to Jesus’ return to “meet us in the air,” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, the more important and vital each of our assignments become.
Jesus said that John the Baptist was the greatest prophet born of a woman. Why? Because his assignment was to prepare the way of the coming of the Lord. Selah (See Matthew 11:11.)
Not only are our assignments increasing in purpose, but at the foundation of our calling is how we as individuals live our lives.
The price for constant victory is constant watchfulness.
Watching
Jesus was teaching his disciples on the signs of the end of the age. Right in the middle of His discourse, He taught on the parable of the ten virgins. Five were wise and had their lamps filled with oil looking for the Bridegroom.
Five did not. The Lord called them foolish and said He did not know them. Only the wise were ready for the Bridegroom and went in with Him to the wedding…and the door was shut! “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.” (For an interesting study, read this parable, Matthew 25:1-13, with Matthew 7:21-23.)
THE OIL
The greatest gift God has given us is our salvation.
Included in our salvation is the Person of His Holy Spirit to live and fellowship with us forever. In different passages of scripture, oil represents a picture of the Holy Spirit.
See 1 Samuel 16:13 & Acts 10:38.
Moses asked the Lord to “teach us to number our days so that we may be wise.” Selah
PRAYING IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Rivers of Life—Rivers of Faith—Rivers of Power!
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you …”
Acts 1:8
Just days after Jesus gave these words to His disciples, the Holy Spirit came upon each of the 120 people gathered in the upper room as they were praying. They were all filled with God’s Spirit and began to speak in other tongues. See Acts 2:1-4. That power anointed them and gave them boldness to preach and declare the wonderful works of God.
Results? Three thousand souls came into the kingdom that day.
There is nothing that can take the place of the Holy Spirit in a believer’s life.
And nothing can take the place of praying in the Spirit. It is necessary in the days we live. This kind of praying deals with the inner workings of our spirit and things that are unknown to our mind. “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner (rooms) depths of his heart.” Proverbs 20:27
We can be praying and up from our spirit can come weeping. This can happen because there may be a burden that has lodged in our soul that needs to be flushed out.
But weeping (groaning) may also be for other people or for our nation. See Romans 8:26.
It is not always made known to us what we are interceding for, but it is necessary to believe that our prayers are pure, that they are led of the Spirit, and that they accomplish much.
During prayer we should stop on occasion and declare our faith: “I receive that Lord!” even though we are not knowledgeable of what it is. Our faith assures us that when we pray in the spirit, we are praying the perfect will of God. Read Romans 8:26-28.
“In the morning sow your seed …” Ecclesiastes 11:3-6.
This is wisdom, for you may be praying out victory against unwanted circumstances. And throughout daily activities you can be praying or singing in the Spirit, even if it is a whisper. See Ephesians 5: 18-19.
Remember the New Creation is first a spirit being.
Your spirit needs to express itself in its own language united with the Holy Spirit. As we do this we are building ourselves up in our most holy faith, similar to athletes who work out with a coach at a gym. See Jude 20.
David and Goliath: 1 Samuel 17
This wonderful account of victory is not just a cute children’s story.
It’s about the awful rampages of nations that are at war. Goliath was harassing and accusing God’s people continually. Israel became dismayed and greatly afraid. Why?
Because they began to believe what the enemy was saying.
There’s so much going on around us in these days.
Evil news reports abound. How can we overcome? How did David overcome?
David overcame because He knew God and knew what God could do through him.
“… but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.”
See Daniel 11:32.
In our generation this is called “The Authority of the Believer!”
The Accuser is a Liar
Goliath mistakenly saw only a young man when he saw David.
He did not see the mighty God that was with him. Everything Goliath boldly declared would happen to David turned around and came upon him! Why? David also boldly declared: victory in the name of the Lord... before the battle began!
Do not allow the accuser to disdain you or bring accusations against any of the Brethren. Shut those things down immediately. If he speaks evil about the Brethren, go the opposite and bless them immediately, not allowing offenses or unforgiveness to take root.
If you are diligent with a good morning routine with the Lord, you can chart a course of protection for your steps to follow. Your heart knows how to direct you if it is led of the Spirit. Praying in the Spirit strengthens you and directs your path.
So does saying the Who I Am Scriptures.
“May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality]. May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell (settle down, abide, make His permanent home) in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love…” Ephesians 3:16-17 AMP
“So teach us to number our days,
That we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12
Adding and Subtracting
Paul exhorted the Corinthian church that “all things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful.” Recently we studied about being aware of what edifies us and what brings us down. (See the lesson for February 17, 2015.)
The teachers you listen to and the close associations you have should pass this test:
Do they encourage my faith or plant seeds of doubt? This is important because the "just shall live by faith." See Hebrews 4:2 & 10:38.
We are a people who are interceding for cities and counties, for people we don’t even know. It is vital for us to guard our hearts. Why?
The ministry of intercession comes out of the heart.
The Holy Spirit will help us with this, but ultimately the ball is in our court just like it was for the children of Israel. They did not receive the benefits of going into the Promised Land. They were locked out because of what they believed in their heart and what they said with their mouth. Numbers 14:28
2015: BE WISE!
We don’t know the day or the hour of the catching away of the church but Jesus did give us clues to look for, primarily Israel.
We are advancing closer and closer to meeting Him and the Saints in the air.
See 1 Thessalonians Chapters 4-5. Much is resting on the assignments of the praying church, but the Lord also wants us watching for His return and to be ready to go.
Do not get distracted for the days are evil.
“For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.
Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:35-36
We have seen much deterioration take place in our nation. Jesus warned our generation this would take place. But glory to God, He said this same generation will experience the glorious splendor of meeting Him in the air, in the twinkling of an eye!
