"The message of the cross ... to us who are being saved
is the power of God."
1 Corinthians 1:18

Holy Brethren who pray,

“You have come to Mt. Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem…” Hebrews 12:22

What does this mean?

Last week we began a new series of revelation in a study of Hebrews Chapter 12.
This is Part 2.

Many scholars agree that Paul is the author of this letter to the Hebrews, which was not written in chapter and verse. His letter is power-packed with revelation knowledge to help The Church see and understand things previously hidden:
  • the Son’s appointment as heir of all things
  • angel’s ministry
  • what He did for us on the cross
  • the better covenant
  • who the believer is in Christ Jesus
  • what Jesus did in the Heavenly Sanctuary
  • testimonies of our ancestry
  • the walk of faith
  • how to walk holy
  • knowledge of the Kingdom of Heaven
  • knowledge of God, a consuming fire
  • instruction on our love walk and service
Hebrews is one of the most important books of the New Testament and, with the help of our Teacher, it is not too hard to understand, but is vital and necessary knowledge for the End Days Church:

“… as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue…” 2 Peter 1:3

THE HOLY CLOUD: The Church Surrounded
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” Hebrews 12:1-2

Those that have gone before us, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Moses and many more who have already taken up residency in Heaven, are aware of us and cheering us on to cross the finish line.

Even our beloved dear family members who have completed their earthly assignments are rooting us onward to “forget those things which are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead, pressing forward for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13

This is not the time to give up Saints, or to grow weary.

Consider Jesus who endured the cross.
Consider Jesus who endured such hostility from sinners.
Consider Jesus who resisted sin and shed His precious blood. Hebrews 12:2-4

Think about this long enough and you can turn discouragement and weariness into thanksgiving for your salvation. Remember the race. Remember the goal.

A daily routine of praise brings strength and courage.

Because He first loved us and gave His life to adopt us into His family, certainly we can change our attitude from fatigue and dissatisfaction to boldly declare, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!” Philippians 4:13

Turn that scripture into “making melody in your heart to the Lord” and rise up to your rightful place as a citizen of Heaven and an heir of God.  Romans 8:17

DISCIPLINE: Discipleship in Training
A soldier who enlists in the army knows he will go through boot camp for indoctrination and training. Not many soldiers have a great time in boot camp. Why? It’s hard work! When we were born from above we came to Jesus with a mindset that had been formulated by a fallen world system. It takes training to renew old ways from a self-dominated life to line up with a Kingdom that operates in love and humility.

It takes work to study and renew the mind to scripture. It takes work to discipline the flesh and walk in the Spirit, but it will produce the sweet fruit of prosperity. Psalm 1:1-3.

CORRECTION
“Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

“For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.

“Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”  Hebrews 12:9-11

Our Heavenly Father corrects us in our spirit. As we repent and change our ways, we will enjoy the pleasant, wonderful fruit of righteousness. This pleases Father.

Be willing to quickly yield to correction for He does this for our profit, for our improvement, and for our advancement.

God is Not Mocked
Years and years of rebellion and contrariness to obey His voice may eventually bring the unpleasant fruit of disobedience, which is an open door to the curse. This does not please our Father.

God’s sovereign will allows man to choose His ways or his own ways.  “Choose life that both you and your descendants may live.”
Read Deuteronomy 30:19-20.

It is always His will that we live in Abraham’s blessing. This is your birthright which was paid for by the blood of Jesus.  Read Galatians 3:13-14 and Galatians 6:7-9.

Selling the Birthright: Beware, brethren …
“Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

“Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

“looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears.”  Hebrews 12:12-17

A life of continual blessing has at its foundation a yielded heart that is willing to change and is open to continual training.

HOLINESS
What is holiness? Is holiness the outward appearance of a woman with no make-up, hair in a bun and a long skirt? Is it the lifestyle of a monk who lives isolated in a seminary?

Holiness is an inward decision to follow the ways of the Holy Spirit of God. Holiness means to be separated unto God for His use.

It means separate-ness, which is the pure loving nature of God separate from all evil.

Holiness cannot be achieved without the blood of Jesus. It cannot take place without “being born again of the incorruptible seed, the Word of God which lives and abides forever.”
1 Peter 1:23

Many earthly religions strive to be holy with many rules, restrictions, and outward apparel. But they achieve nothing!

Why?

Because there is no substitution for the bloody sacrifice of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. Without faith in the cross all their works are in vain! "There is a way that seems right to a man, but it's end is the way of death." Proverbs 16:25

“If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

“Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.” Hebrews 12:7-10

LIFE APPLICATIONS: Growing Up
Our Father brings correction to our spirit for our profit so we may be partakers of His holiness.

Preparation
So many are praying and calling out for God’s power to increase in their lives, but God is at work right now in the hearts of each one of His children to have them yield to His correction and His holy ways.

Just as a good father would never give a machine gun to a three year old, our heavenly Father knows our maturity must precede His power.

If we want to experience more of His power, He requires that we become partakers of His holiness.

Power
Jesus was in training for thirty years before Father “anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…for God was with Him.” Acts 10:38

“…though He was a Son, He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected …”  Read Hebrews 5:7-9

Let us be open to:

  • Hear His voice more clearly
  • Be submissive to our Father who loves us dearly
  • Quickly yield to His correction
  • Be open to continual training
  • Do what we know to do and not be hearers only
  • Love others as we love ourselves
You have come to Mount Zion, Beloved!

Next week we will continue this study as we look at the children of Israel and Mount Sinai.
  • But you have come to Mount Zion and
  • to the city of the living God,
  • the heavenly Jerusalem,
  • to an innumerable company of angels,
  • to the general assembly and
  • church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven,
  • to God the Judge of all,
  • to the spirits of just men made perfect,
  • to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and
  • to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12:22-24

PRAYER: Be watching Saints!

Prayer for our nation is vital over our coming holidays. Keep America and your state covered in prayer.

"Arise, shine ...
Isaiah 60:1

Grace and peace to you who have an assignment to pray.

“To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him.” Revelation 1:5-6

GROW UP!
Have you ever heard that from someone? I can recall some of the emotions that stirred in me when I heard that, mainly anger that seemed to crawl up the back of my neck!

What about when the Holy Spirit tells you to grow up?

I believe this word from Headquarters today is a call to grow in the wisdom and ways of the Spirit; a call to come up into the higher ways of God, for you were born again from above, a New Creation … in Who? Jesus Christ!

You were born of incorruptible seed: the living Word of God.

“Old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new. Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh.”  2 Corinthians 5:17 and 16.

A Kingdom of Kings and Priests

“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

“Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.”
1 Peter 2:9-12

A Chosen Generation: The End Days Church
Jesus told us to look at the fig tree, Israel, for clues to the end time:

"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.

"So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near; at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.” Matthew 24:32-34

The End-Days Church is a glorious display of God’s best; a magnificent group of people called out of darkness, predestined with a grand purpose to do the impossible!

“… just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love,

“having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.“  Ephesians 1:4-6

The Great Race: 2013!
God has always had a people in the earth. Hebrews Chapter 11 gives an account of ordinary people who did the extraordinary because of faith in God and God’s power in them.

Like a relay race in which a baton is passed from one runner to the next, God has always had someone to continue to carry the blessing from one generation to the next. But just like a coach, the LORD has saved His best runners for the end of the race; those who will fight the good fight and persevere with great strength and tenacity—long distance runners—who strive to reach and pass the finish line to win the grand prize for their team: “the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” That’s you Beloved!  Philippians 3:14

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

“looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.

“And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown.”  1 Corinthians 9:24-25

We’re growing up and going up to reveal the manifold wisdom of God!
Read Ephesians 3:9-12.

One of the things we learned in our study in Hebrews, (see September 10th lesson in the archives,) was the effect that Israel’s 10 unbelieving leaders had on 2-3 million people. They saw themselves as grasshoppers and sadly projected that same image onto those they were responsible to lead. Well, anyone without the LORD can feel like a loser.

But you and I are VERY different people because God is not only with us but He is in us.
“In Him we live and move and have our being.”  Acts 17:28

Joshua and Caleb put it this way as they spoke: “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” That’s pure faith in God!

Is there anything too hard for God? His Spirit resides in us to pray out His plans and purposes for end-time events.

When you pray, follow His leading rather than carnal reasoning.
Pray in the Spirit!

Grow up … into the higher ways of prayer to rule and “reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”  Romans 5:17

"Look ... they neither sow, reap or gather into barns ... yet Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
Matthew 6:26

Holy Brethren, our last lesson, which consists only of scripture concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, is very powerful and worthy of repeated reading and meditation.

What is meditation?
Scriptural meditation is far different from those that use the carnal mind to focus on matters of self apart from God and His Word. The Hebrew word for meditation is Hagah, which means to murmur, ponder, imagine, mutter-speak, study, reflect.

As you meditate, the Holy Spirit can anchor the Word in your heart to bring forth revelation and application that will produce victory.

Meditation and the Tongue
As Joshua led the children of Israel to take the land of Canaan, he never lost a battle.
Never!

Why? Because he was obedient to do what God said.

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:8

Meditate day and night on God’s Word. Impossible you say?
No, it’s not impossible. Start where you are. Know that the outcome will produce victory in your life.

Your will is stronger than a chaotic thought life. If your thoughts are not used to being disciplined, remember that every morning is a brand new beginning with God. His Spirit that resides in you is your personal trainer to help you overcome and to “bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”  2 Corinthians 10:3-5

The Plan
Read scripture with the intent to do what it says every morning.

The Teacher will always “highlight” something as you study God’s Word. Write it down in your journal and then on a slip of paper. Put it where you can see it: in the kitchen, on your bathroom mirror, TV or computer, or perhaps even in your shoe! Think about the Word; mutter it quietly here and there as you go about your work and daily activities. Praise God that it is working even when you go to sleep.

Think you’re too busy?
This is just an excuse. That decision will produce something negative in your life and affect other people. I’m sure the Israelites were very happy that Joshua didn’t rely on excuses.

Joshua was the leader of 2-3 million people and certainly had lots of responsibilities every day, yet we know he meditated on God’s Word day and night because God gave him continual victories over all opposition.

Meditation Releases Kingdom Power
There’s power in God’s Word, but that power remains dormant until the seed is deposited into the rich and fertile heart of a Believer that has renewed his mind and disciplined his tongue.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue." Proverbs 18:21

“Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: "Sun, stand still over Gibeon; and Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.

"So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

“And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the LORD heeded the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.” Joshua 10:12-14

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN: WORRY
Jesus said: “You cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?

"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

"Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

"So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

"Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

"Therefore do not worry, saying,
'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

"For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”  Matthew 6:24-33

Seeking God’s Kingdom, of which you and I are now citizens—see Philippians 3:20—requires us to adhere to a new set of rules: the King’s way of doing things. Unlike a democracy which we Americans are used to, God’s Kingdom is a theocracy. Adherence to His leadership will produce victory.

Faith, hope and love are always at the foundation of our Father’s Kingdom. Obedience is the key to the blessed life.

Fear is not from God’s Kingdom but is earthly and devilish.

Worry is meditating, setting your thoughts day and night on satan’s threats, lies and deceptions. Worry is faith in what satan says he’s going to do.

This is where the rubber meets the road, Saints. Who will we put our trust in?

Worldly Influence
The Gentiles are captive to a system that has to provide for all of their own needs: money, food, clothing, shelter, etc.

We belong to a Kingdom that will provide for our every need if we seek first His Kingdom, (Psalm 103:19,) and His ways of living.

Why should we allow the Gentiles to captivate our thoughts? Be careful what you read, watch and listen to on TV, movies, music, news, etc. Don’t ever watch anything that causes you fear.

“Now the Spirit speaketh expressly,
that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron … “  1 Timothy 4:12

Beware, brethren!

SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM: The Kingdom of Love
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new …

“Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ … for He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  2 Corinthians 5:17-21

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love … Colossians 1:13

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.”
1 John 4:17-18

“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  1 John 5:3-4

THINK—MEDITATE—ON THESE THINGS:
“Rejoice in the Lord always … “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

“Finally, brethren,
  • whatever things are true,
  • whatever things are noble,
  • whatever things are just,
  • whatever things are pure,
  • whatever things are lovely,
  • whatever things are of good report,
  • if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy;
  • meditate on these things.
“The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”  Philippians 4:4-9
____________________________________________________________

Life Applications for Perilous Times: Do Not Worry!
Meditating on God’s Word will renew and guard your mind and heart which is absolutely necessary the closer we get to the coming of the Lord.

The blessed man in Psalm 1 meditates in His law day and night.
Psalm 119:97 reveals: “Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day.”
Paul gives Timothy instruction for church leadership: “Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.”  1 Timothy 4:15

There are many more scriptures on meditation you might enjoy studying.

Challenge: Write Philippians 4:8 on a card and stick it on your television.

"... darkness shall cover the earth ... but the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you."
Isaiah 60:2

Holy Brethren, let us hear directly from Heaven today:

MYSTERIES OF THE KINGDOM

“But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable.
And He said to them, ‘To you it has been given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, all things come in parables, ‘so that 'Seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand; Lest they should turn, and their sins be forgiven them.'"  Mark 4:10-12

Kingdom Words
"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63

The Glorious Church: A New Position
“Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you.

“For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people;

“But the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.

“The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.”
Isaiah 60:1-3

Scripture Pictures
“Then He said, ‘To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it?’

"It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade."
Mark 4:30-32

“Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, ‘Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.’

“He answered and said to them:
He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one.

"The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age.

"The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

"Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Matthew 13:36-43

The Day
“But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief.
You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night.

“But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.

“For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:4-11

"For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, that will leave them neither root nor branch.

“But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves.” Malachi 4:1-2

The Glory: Revealings
“Then Moses went up into the mountain, and a cloud covered the mountain.

“Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.  The sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.

“So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain.
Exodus 24:15-18

“For you have not come to the mountain that may be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness and darkness and tempest, and the sound of a trumpet and the voice of words, so that those who heard it begged that the word should not be spoken to them anymore. (For they could not endure what was commanded: ‘And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.’ And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.")

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels,

“to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.

“See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. for if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, ‘Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.’”

“Now this, ‘Yet once more,’ indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

“For our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:18-29
